15 Questions to Assess Your Level of Self-Esteem
This questionnaire factors in the various aspects of self-regard to give you a check-in on how you are doing in the area of self-esteem:
Do I take care of my basic needs (such as sleep, timely meals, etc)?
Disclaimer: to the extent my basic needs are within my control
Do I take care of my body? (such as exercise, seek care if sick/injured)
Do I take care of my appearance?
Is my internal dialogue as kind to myself as I would be out loud to a friend?
Do I believe I am worth taking care of?
Do I believe my needs are equally important to anyone else’s?
Do I spend time around people who value me?
Do I set realistic/achievable goals?
Do I allow myself to acknowledge/appreciate goals when I reach them?
Do I believe I am equally deserving of good things as other people?
Do I feel angry or bothered if someone treats me poorly or with disrespect?
Can I accept a compliment?
Do I occasionally treat myself or give myself a break sometimes?
Am I willing to try new things?
Do I feel like I know myself and my preferences (instead of needing to look to others to know what to do or choose?)
If you answered “no” to any of these specific questions, then consider increasing self-esteem as a priority focus for personal growth. The more “no’s” you have indicate lower self-esteem.
If you answered 5 or more with “no,” it indicates likely low self-esteem, and that this is an area you would benefit greatly from developing, as it has a huge impact on the quality of your other areas of life:
how successful you feel at work or other tasks
how you relate to others
your balance of responsibility to free time
your overall emotional and physical health
Fortunately, self-esteem is an attribute that can be built and cultivated. So the more “no’s”, the greater the opportunity for change and improvement.
